When My GRIII Fooled Everyone
Last month, I went on a photowalk around Asakusa. I brought my favorite pocket cameras — the Ricoh GRIII and the Nikon AF600. I took several shots from the same angles using both cameras since I’ve been trying to decide which film stock I’ll stick with from now on.
Three days ago, I received the scanned results of my developed film via email. I immediately went through them and found a few shots that I really liked. That’s when I decided to try editing my GRIII photos to look similar to the film photos from the Nikon AF600.
After getting the look I wanted, I uploaded both versions to my Instagram Stories and ran a poll asking which one people thought was taken with a film camera.
Surprisingly, many people chose the GRIII photo. Maybe it’s because I added a bit too much grain. But at the same time, it made me wonder — did I actually manage to replicate the film colors?
