Photowalk in Kuramae: Waiting for Sakura, Finding Acacia

Technically, it’s still winter this month. But signs of early spring are starting to show across the city. Some cherry blossom trees have already begun to bloom, including the ones at Kuramae Shrine. Last year, I missed the chance to capture sakura here. This year, I came earlier, hoping to get a different moment—but it seems I was a bit too early. Most of the cherry blossom leaves hadn’t fully grown yet.

Still, something unexpected caught my eye. Right next to the shrine, there was a tree blooming with soft yellow flowers—Acacia baileyana. Its vibrant yellow stood out beautifully against the traditional backdrop of the shrine, and it quickly became the center of attention that morning. Visitors gathered around to photograph it, even from early hours. It may not have been sakura, but it brought a warm and lively feeling that was just as lovely.

Since there weren’t many cherry blossoms in full bloom yet, I decided to wander around Kuramae a bit more. I shifted my focus to street scenes—storefronts, vending machines, and the everyday charm of the neighborhood. Kuramae has a quiet, nostalgic atmosphere, full of subtle beauty. Every corner tells a different story. I hope you enjoy this photowalk and the moments I captured along the way.
